Mathematics

Our mathematics department focuses on building a strong mathematics foundation for all students.

The curriculum focuses on developing increasingly sophisticated and refined mathematical understanding, fluency, logical reasoning, analytical thought and problem-solving skills. These capabilities enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing mathematical strategies to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently.

Lower School

Mathematics is a compulsory subject from Years 7-10. There are three Mathematics classes to meet the needs of all students and create strong mathematical foundations. Specialist Mathematics, Mainstream Mathematics and Foundations, for those students who require extra support.

Lower school mathematics focus on Understanding, Fluency, Problem-Solving and Reasoning across three content areas:

  1. Number and Algebra
    1. Number and Place Value
    2. Patterns and Algebra
  2. Measurement and Geometry
    1. Using Units of Measurement
    2. Shape
    3. Location and Transformation
  3. Statistics and Probability
    1. Data Representation and Interpretation

Upper School

In Senior School, students can choose from:

  1. Mathematics Specialist
  2. Mathematics Methods
  3. Mathematics Applications
  4. Mathematics Essential

We encourage students and families to discuss with us any queries they might have when selecting Senior School mathematics courses. Depending on each student’s career pathway choice one or a combination of these courses will be recommended.

For more detailed information on each of these courses, please consult our Senior Directory.
