Registration for the Year 7, 2028 Specialist Programs (DoE Approved) and Academic Extension Program (school-based program) test opens on Friday, 24 April and close on Friday, 18 September, 2026.
The tests are scheduled for:

Experience the excitement of Japanese culture and language with our Specialist Japanese Program! As one of only 31 approved programs in the state, you’ll have the opportunity to be part of an innovative and challenging program designed to equip you with essential communication skills and an understanding of the role of language and culture in human communication.
You’ll attend two hours of Japanese classes per week and have the chance to participate in a two-week immersion program with visiting Japanese high school students, a two-week Japan tour, after-school enrichment workshops and various excursions throughout the year.

The Science and Technology Academy (STA) at Leeming Senior High School is an exciting opportunity for high school students who are passionate about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. As an Approved Specialist program within the WA Department of Education, we offer students an innovative, inquiry-based approach to learning that is tailored to their interests and abilities.
Our program provides academically gifted students with the opportunity to learn from specialist Science, Mathematics and Technology teachers, who are experts in their fields and have a passion for teaching. Additionally, our extensive co-curricular program of enrichment and extension activities, facilitated by specialist program coordinators, is designed to foster academic achievement, a greater interest and participation in the many facets of STEM.
Membership
The Science and Technology Academy (STA) welcomes all students, including those with academic gifts and those interested in exploring STEM fields. The program has two categories: STA Specialist Member (selected through academic testing) and STA Associate Member (available to all mainstream students).

Academic Extension Program

The Academic Extension Program (AEP) is a school-based enrichment program in English and Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) for academically talented.
It aims to inspire and challenge students through intellectual inquiry, fostering excellence and a collaborative learning environment.
Skills
The AEP enhances students’ critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills. Students work on developing a deep understanding of literary and historical contexts, fostering a well-rounded perspective.
We encourage research, writing proficiency and the ability to analyse complex information.
